Hello!

I am Becs Wells, and I am a multi-medium artist. Art lights my inner flame, and through my work I am striving to reach and light any and every person’s inner flame. I am rewriting what it means to be a woman by challenging norms, engaging with hard truths and letting curiosity rather than fear lead me.

I am…

a Dunwoody graduate

After receiving a Bachelor’s in the Fine Arts from Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana, I applied and was accepted into Dunwoody College of Technology in Minnesota where I continued pursuing my passion for welding in their Welding in Technology program. I graduated top of my class with academic excellence and was selected to give the commencement speech at my graduation. As a graduate I will continue to make change in a male dominated field with each work I create.

fueled by curiosity

I have always been curious: curious about exploring new places, curious about learning new things and curious about how I can change the world. The mountains are often where I let my curiosity guide me—whether I’m hiking a new trail or pushing myself in a 20 mile race. As I lay down every brush stroke, I return to my experiences in the mountains. I hear the rustle of the grass as I shift my weight upon the meadows holding me in place. I feel the cool breeze of a Montana storm rolling in threatening to rain or snow or simply pass over. When I hike or travel, my sketchbook is in hand—always ready to capture the world around me through art. I spend many days diving into my curiosity on the tops of mountains trying to understand and capture the environment that engulfs me and each day teaches me more and more about myself and my position as an artist.

an athlete

I grew up in a small mountain town in the heart of the Cascades where nature is at every person’s core. I was raised participating in a variety of sports, but my main focus was nordic skiing. For ten years I traveled to races throughout the country, and I was elected team captain for my final two seasons. During my last two years of high school I was training, competing, and enrolled in community college.

a creator

I can’t remember a time in my life when I wasn’t creating in some form. My favorite subject in grade school was always art. Other subjects didn’t make me feel what art made me feel, and often were frustrating due to being dyslexic; however, I have always had a passion for all kinds of learning. No matter how challenging things are, I know that I can work hard and create a life that lights my soul on fire. During my junior year of high school I started community college and my world expanded rapidly. There was so much to learn and so many paths to take. I went on to change my major from criminal justice to exercise science to architecture, but the whole time I kept taking art classes. Eventually I made the decision to commit to a Bachelors in the Fine Arts with an emphasis in sculpture, and my major choice finally aligned with my pith. I am a creative person, who feels most alive creating pieces that make people think and connect to the world around them.

I was selected to give the commencement speech at my graduation, which you can watch right here!
